2-10 Kelham Mews, 6-8 The Grove

Located in Slough Town Centre is the residential development 2-10 Kelham Mews built on former car park to offices recently converted into residential flats. The proposal includes a total of nine new build flats, five at ground floor at four at first floor.

Overlooked by an adjacent residential developments, both under construction and planned, the key challenge was to design new accommodation that did not adversely affect the amenity of new residential tenants and respected the existing urban context. .

The external massing has been developed to create a new pedestrian mews to the rear of the existing building. An angled, stepped façade creates a vibrant rhythm and serves to define each flat avoiding overlooking. At ground floor, there are five bays for each flat with their own front doors and landscaping. At first floor four flats are accessed by a communal entrance and staircase. A series of mono-pitched roofs define each of the first floor flats which visually defines the massing of the overall form.

The stepped construction led to developing a steel framed structural solution allowing support for the party walls at the upper levels. The bricks used co-ordinate with the existing building and set back roof clad in vertical slate mirrors the neighbouring mansard roof.
