1-7 Shirland Mews, W9
Associate Architect, London, W9
Set within an existing London mews typically inhabited with mechanics and garages the scheme transformed the ramshackled and crowded street with ten split level houses.
The traditional terrace arrangement has been subverted by creating a continuous open plan house with high south facing veranda to the street; the additional floor height flooding natural light into the house. A top lit stair well creates a graceful galleried stair to the master bedroom and ensuite. A large, lower floor room with its own external terrace provides space for a more seclude bedroom or study.
Mark Fairhurst designed the project as Associate Architect at Conran & Partners and was later employed as architectural consultant for the completion of the project.
