Pelham Street, SW7
House Extension, London
For this house extension, a three storey mid-19th Century terrace house located in the heart of Kensington and Chelsea has been extended with new basement, rear garden and mansard roof extension, transforming a compact traditional house into a free flowing open plan home to suit the needs of a young growing family.
The upper ground floor dining space and lower children’s room are linked via a double height space with gallery. Sliding doors and movable partitions discretely connect study, living and kitchen areas, with guest room located towards the front light well. A steel and glass staircase is lit via a generous roof light flooding natural light to the floors below. The new basement houses a swimming pool, music and film rooms. The new mansard roof level provides accommodation for a master bedroom, dressing room and ensuite bathroom.
Mark Fairhurst Architects worked with Iceni Planning Consultants and Hall Davis structural engineers on securing planning for the works coordinating the technical design with the design team and self-build contracting team. The client worked closely with the contractor designing bespoke furniture and interior decor.
