Clapham Road, SW9
Property Development, London, SW9
This property development was originally designed as an imposing residential property overlooking fields and gardens, the early 19th Century Grade 2 listed building had been unsympathetically converted into a funeral parlour with concrete incineration tower and large rear extension. Forming part of a longer row of buildings facing the Clapham Road, the development involved the building being reclaimed for residential use carefully demolishing the later additions, preserving the surviving listed features and creating two new lower ground floor extensions and entrance court yards.
Six new flats have been arranged on the four stories; two basement flats overlook south facing private entrance courtyards to the rear, a spacious ground floor flat benefits from the generous floor to ceiling heights and curved bay windows. The existing staircase has been extended to provide access to the three flats above incorporating a maisonette maintaining an original attic stair. Original oak sash windows and shutters were carefully retained and preserved. External pointing was specified to match the original lime mortar.
